Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)
Summary
In 2005 the Aquidneck Island Planning Commission (AIPC) produced two studies to determine the marine navigation, economic, and traffic impacts of the proposed Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) transit through Narragansett Bay. The studies found that the passage of natural gas tankers through the Bay would have significant impacts on recreational and commercial boating in the East Bay and on traffic flow conditions around the Newport and Mount Hope Bridges.

Objectives
AIPC conducted the studies to inform and prepare its constituent municipalities - Portsmouth, Middletown, Newport, and Naval Station Newport - should LNG transit become a reality. The organization does not hold a position for or against the proposal.
